Lemon Balm:

Although more commonly used as a sleep aid than a nootropic, some studies have shown it may help improve aspects of cognitive function. Lemon balm can be taken as a supplement in capsule or powder form, or better, you can sip on a nice cup of savory tea made from its leaves, whether fresh or dried.

Lion’s Mane Mushroom:

This mushroom has been around for thousands of years, and it lately became a very popular supplement revered for its memory-boosting, brain-protecting, and anxiety-fighting benefits. Lion’s mane may help protect from age-related cognitive decline and there are promising studies on its efficacy in fighting off brain damage caused by Alzheimer’s disease and other mental disorders. If herbal remedies aren’t doing the trick for you, you may want to consider one of the more potent synthetic nootropics, and of those, Phenibut tops the list when it comes to mitigating anxiety. Phenibut is an analogue of the inhibitory neurotransmitter GABA, which is primarily responsible for calming your brain and helping you relax.     I have been suffering from social anxiety for as long as I can remember… If I happen to be among a group with more than 2-3 people, I sweat like crazy and almost start to panic.

    I’ve tried meditation and other alternative therapies but nothing has really worked.

    Those supplements seem like they could help me but I got to ask. Do they have some kind of sedative or antidepressant in them? I mean, how could they cure anxiety if they don’t have right?

    This is a super interesting read! I love how much detail you have gone into about each of these products and how they work. I’v heard of nootropics before but I had no idea how they actually worked. I suppose we will be hearing more and more about nootropics as they are really increasing in popularity fast (they have a 15% expected growth rate over the next several years, which is some pretty impressive growth). People must be finding these to be effective.

    I have a few friends who suffer from social anxiety is something that is really helpful for them. Social anxiety is an unfortunate thing that appears inevitable in some people. I’m probably a bigger fan of the natural nootropics. I’ll be sure to recommend to my friends products such as lemon balm and lion’s mane mushroom, and I’ll refer them to your post as well.     Thanks a lot for that informative article. Had I come across the term nootropics i wouldn’t have thought that it has to do with treating social anxiety and other brain issues. But now i know! And thanks for the suggested products.

    I totally agree that how mankind interacted with nature in ancient days is the best way to keep all round health. I miss those days I could play on the grass barefooted! I learnt recently that barefoot walking on the grass increases body’s feel good hormones (endorphins) and reduces stress/anxiety level by over 50%. Kindly research and verify that for us, too.

    Thanks for sharing the term “Nootropics” – I learned a new word (LOL).
    It was an excellent article with details of five commonly used nootropics.
    Bacopa Monnieri is an Indian Herb called “ Brahmi” and widely used for diseases related to brain issues as well as brain tonic supplement.
    I would like to use Lemon Balm for a better sleep and stress reliever.
